Darkening Arabian Knights
Crisis what crises?
So the sad deplorable state of affair goes on. One of the many increasing elements that show that there is an escalating rapid change in the affairs of western nations plays out yet again. There are many reasons why the speed of conflicts are occurring but the three that come to my mind are primarily oil, economic and for the moment to a lesser degree – environmental. The west has shown a deplorable understanding and desire to size initiative and show a strong wish to help maintain equitable stability, from the fiascos of Balkan genocide, Iraq debacle, Rwanda, Ethiopia, to the weeping sore of Israel and Lebanon.
Today we have the unacceptable play of a regional superpower using its power to subordinate a country on a whim of reaction to regain just two captured soldiers!
It makes the ‘saving of Private Ryan’ a very poor caricature pre view of fact.
To put some context behind the mess consider that in the last war the west knew that there was a specific target aim at reducing the number of Jews – “ethnic cleansing” on a organised large scale but hid that fact from general knowledge until it was in a position to do something about it; stop the war. There may have been some collective guilt in 1946 /48 in that the knowledge blindly led both USA and GB to support the idea of creating a separate state carved out of Palestine, giving the Jews their “promised land”. That this move was resented by the local Arab elements could be understandable but as GB had the upper hand in the region, objection could be stifled.
All through the past 6 decades this artificial creation of a Jewish state has been contested consistently driven by the emotive history of the Jews as their earned right to hold onto the territory by what ever means supported by the financial and participating strength of the USA. Over looking the past major conflict with Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, the six day wars and the annexation of land illegally by Israel (Gaza / Westbank) against UN mandate all show that Israel is quite capable of defending itself and is for the moment strong enough to ignore discordant international condemnation if it does not suit it.
Israel is an artificial creation; it is unusually a major democratic power with a sophisticated military ability and is very useful as regional gatekeeper stooge for keeping an eye on its undemocratic neighbours that have oil in the ground. Its current active antagonists reside in Lebanon in the form of Hezbollah and Hamas which were initially fostered by Syria and Iran, are the sword of Arab discontent at the existence of Israel but its right to exist is now lightly expressed as being excepted by some elements of states, never the less the largely undemocratic nature of the region and the attempt to integrate a democratic sustainable one in Lebanon is a tortuous road. The existence of Hezbollah and Hamas within Lebanon portray the liability of states within a state, the purported legitimate power has very little control over the propagation of violence aimed at Israel. While these organisation exist with their intent to get land back or excise Israel there is little hope of gaining peace in the region.
Despite all the conflict and pain this current outbreak of conflict has to be the last time it is allowed to occur in the name of Israel gaining its security. The only way to end it is for Israel to see that its time is running out. As a regional democratic superpower it has the ability to call a halt as it can and does controls its power, where as its infested Lebanon opponent has less control but destroying a whole country to attempt to eliminate a minor democratic terrorist group is self defeating. There is no possibility that force will ever be able to eradicate (without extinction) an enemy. It is possible to destroy the hard infrastructure BUT the ideology remains and is made stronger!
Israel has to be made to see that its survival depends on reaching agreement with its neighbours. It will have to give up and risk much, it will have to absorbed residue inflicted pain without retaliation, it has to start to rebuild what it has destroyed and it needs to do it fast. The demographic and the looming issue of ‘peak oil / water’ show that its importance within the region will become substantially less so to the supporting powers and as the historic generational memory of those countries change, the inclination to salve guilt will diminish and a different reality will develop to dictate actions. The tribes of Israel and sect are just part of the Arab nations to which they can return.
So what a poisonous promised land it has turned out to be and how far the poison now reaches. This recent overt excessive aggression by Israel is uncalled for but it is if they can only realise it, the crisis of crises. There is a growing sense that they have learned to adopt and apply the tyranny that their creators sought to escape from, 1,GodAllahTetragrammaton will not allow this to continue hence I can see the likely play of history unfolding and with this they have learned nothing to survive the illusive promised land.
They have less than one year to start the process of hard reconciliation, if they do not, the repercussions for them will be catastrophic.
