It is not enough just living a good life, it is the desire, intention, motivation, willingness to do so in the light of what can be obtained – to recognise the might and the widow, ride the camels needle, with the rich man at his gate in tow.

To do one thing and prefer another, to say one thing and mean to differ, to observe a thing and feel nothing, to think a thing and do nothing, to ignore ones part in the affair of all life, to ignore the demands of the unquiet spirit. All these set up conflicts that are difficult to reconcile in materialistic environs but being true to the tenets of the handbook offers the opportunity for balance without the need to become a complete ascetic. The process to lead a good life is difficult, it is however not judgemental but it does demand honesty and a continuing sense of purpose with conscious action to keep to the path and be aware.
The unfortunate and difficult aspect of the path is that it can rarely be taught or indoctrinated, it has to become a part of the ones life sprit, once sought out it has to become as if innately felt and absorbed as a part of the essence of life. The process can become unaided or if a compatible social environment is available, one that is non proscriptive or draconian, this also can be another essential element of the ambiance needed to allow the awareness to develop. The important thing is to want to achieve the aim to have the frame of mind that is prepared to ask the question, to seek and be open to the subtlety of directions that will be shown. It is about leaning to relax into the state of life but have a steer for the feeling that the energy of life gives and pervades all things.

It may be possible to extend life by mechanical and chemical biological factors even picking the optimum gene string, yet the being will still demise. The trick is to be aware of the treads that will be placed before one, to take heed of them, to listen to them to act on them and know the subtlety of the process that moves one on. Whatever the mode of relating external representation, the issue is responding to the environs and to interact, this is the every day fact of life, it is the practical reality of existence yet without the will to direct it, with purpose, it does not meet the need to shape life beyond.

The chances are that you will find that you will be distracted by an annoying itch or want to move or be assailed by a stream of thoughts unconnected with the task to the extent that you will stop before you decide to. The point here is to notice the time differential and the likely constant flow of thoughts that pop in and out of your mind. If you are someone that can get a close guess to the time allocated and not have a discordant internal dialogue, or be distracted you are on the way.
Some will need to develop concentration to gain more control of what they do with their mind. So by choosing an object, subject or theme and to the exclusion of all other thoughts think upon it for a timed period. The more one can keep to the task without extraneous unconnected thoughts impinging, which no doubt will happen, the better. The aim is to a least have a period when you know that you are in charge of your mind by your own will and not constantly allowing other element to impinge. The time span can be a minute to 15 or more but this is again not as important so long as you know that you are in control and can control just how you use your mind as you want.

To test if you making progress, write down a phrase, book title, image, etc something that you either do not know about, want to find, would not expect to encounter normally and before you move into a meditation phase concentrate on it for a moment ask yourself where or what it is to seek, then enter meditation with the desire to find it and then leave it there, do not think of how to etc!. In this state you will begin to open the path.
Once you have completed the meditation do nothing to deliberately aid a solution BUT wait. You could of course set out to obtain the quest with an active frenzied search; it may be successful in which case good. However be aware and in due time the phrase etc will be placed before you, or help provided to you in an unexpected way. This may seem like ‘synchronicity’, it does not really matter if it gives the help you seek however if you doubt the effects you will be undermining the essence of life to aid you in the quest and forestall further development.
How long it takes to gain noted success can depend on how you react to the discipline of meditation. Small instant success is not unusual however if you are not honest in the application or do not grasp what is taking place you may be moved to not progress with this particular process. This does NOT mean that you have failed or the process is useless, it is just that this particular way is not matching your need at this time and another route will be offered, if you are prepared to notice the seemingly synchronicity of it, a clue required, offered from a unusual or unexpected source. It may not be a stop dead in your track pointer but it will be at least a two prong approach to you, so if you need to continue, be aware keep an open mind.

Giving some effort over to listening to the inner sprit will challenge perceptions but as one is asking for a greater degree of clarity to be available in the realm of this ‘reality’ leading to the essence of the etheric that is behind all things, is this an aim worthy of such effort? To be in a world of temporal state with the discordance of affairs will be disturbing but eventually understandable however the knowledge will lead to being able to pace ones life out.
In this modern age, in educational terms, there is little occasion to teach the young how to think. No effort made to teach them how to be aware of themselves in the environment and no attempt to create a better self understanding of how they are. It is assumed that all people think and develop an internal model that allows for interrelations with others and forms the basis that one has an idea of what others might think and how they may act in given situations. This is an extraordinary assumption. It assume that everybody thinks in their own mind in words, an internal constant dialogue, a turmoil that can be turned off or on and makes no allowance for some that do not think in words at all! There are some who do not think in the normal way but have an emotion dialogue that runs in their actions; there are others that constantly think and seem not to be able to turn the internal dialogue off and others that have to actively engage word thoughts.
Whatever the mode of relating external representation, the issue is responding to the environs and to interact, this is the every day fact of life, it is the practical reality of existence yet without the will to direct it, with purpose, it does not meet the need to shape life beyond.
If the terms spirit, meditation and concentration, which are ways of having sole focused control, are unfamiliar to you or these phrases are inclined to put you off just now, the following may not be for you yet.
The spirit has the voice and it clamours to be heard but finds it difficult to get through the brains constant mind muddle and the deluge that passes for conscious thought. A mechanism to bring some order to the ability to pick up the treads of direction is to adopt concentration and meditation with relaxation. This is not irrelevant or as tenuous a process as it seems, although for many it will be unusual or difficult there is a simple self test that can indicate just how much ability one has and how tricky it might be gaining control of the mind to allow the spirit to be heard.
First relax, be comfortable anyway that suits you. Relaxation is a process whereby you put the body into a rest state, no movement, no physical tension and calm. There are a number of techniques to achieve this but how you do it is up to you. Next step requires a stop watch / clock. Close eyes, start watch or note the time. Relax and let a time go by. It dose not matter how long a period you use but preferable before you drop into a sleep. Then before opening your eyes again guess how much time has elapsed, stop the watch and then check against the watch the actual time. Most people will under estimate the time that has past by, usually the difference will be surprisingly more or less, all this does is show how time can change under certain circumstances - as in time flys.
The chances are that you will find that you will be distracted by an annoying itch or want to move or be assailed by a stream of thoughts unconnected with the task to the extent that you will stop before you decide to. The point here is to notice the time differential and the likely constant flow of thoughts that pop in and out of your mind. If you are someone that can get a close guess to the time allocated and not have a discordant internal dialogue, or be distracted you are on the way.
Some will need to develop concentration to gain more control of what they do with their mind. So by choosing an object, subject or theme and to the exclusion of all other thoughts think upon it for a timed period. The more one can keep to the task without extraneous unconnected thoughts impinging, which no doubt will happen, the better. The aim is to a least have a period when you know that you are in charge of your mind by your own will and not constantly allowing other element to impinge. The time span can be a minute to 15 or more but this is again not as important so long as you know that you are in control and can control just how you use your mind as you want.
The next step is more difficult and this requires you to NOT think in words or pictures or feeling but to become calm to the extent that you are near a sleep / hypnogogic state but you are still aware of all your surroundings yet not to be an active part of them. It may seem to be a bit of a pointless task and to some will be very hard to achieve – how can one stop thinking and still be usefully conscious. Look at it this way when you are asleep you stop consciously thinking but your physical function still continues, you my dream and these dreams are not usually under your conscious control, you may not be wholly aware of the form or function of the dream yet when you awake you have a sense of what the dream was. So there is always a part of your brain and mind that is active and is not obvious to you, this is because in order to cope with the creation of everyday reality you have to have some control over how you respond and act, this is the responsibility of the conscious mind but the unconscious (super conscious) has the task of assessing all information and looking after your best autonomic spirit interest.
Thinking has not always been done in words but sophistication has meant that the conscious development of self and the use of relativity words taking precedence over an imaged way of being in a reality.
In meditation the task is to clear the mind and not think in words. It could be likened to having a calm mind when no thought or feelings are charge though ones conscious actions. In meditation there will occur extraneous flashed of mundane thought process linked to everyday life. These thoughts are to be noted but not to be progressed consciously, stop them, or will them fade away. The eventual process will be similar to reaching a hypnogogic phase when it will seem that you are consciously asleep but in actual fact you are aware but not responding to everything that is around you.
In this phase it will become obvious that some impression that do not emanate from your conscious self will empathy in. Meditation allows you to find information / guidance on an issue and it is this stage the sprit will begin to offer direction. You can choose to pay attention or not but if you are seeking something then this is where it starts.
To test if you making progress, write down a phrase, book title, image, etc something that you either do not know about, want to find, would not expect to encounter normally and before you move into a meditation phase concentrate on it for a moment ask yourself where or what it is to seek, then enter meditation with the desire to find it and then leave it there, do not think of how to etc!. In this state you will begin to open the path.
Once you have completed the meditation do nothing to deliberately aid a solution BUT wait. You could of course set out to obtain the quest with an active frenzied search; it may be successful in which case good. However be aware and in due time the phrase etc will be placed before you, or help provided to you in an unexpected way. This may seem like ‘synchronicity’, it does not really matter if it gives the help you seek however if you doubt the effects you will be undermining the essence of life to aid you in the quest and forestall further development.
How long it takes to gain noted success can depend on how you react to the discipline of meditation. Small instant success is not unusual however if you are not honest in the application or do not grasp what is taking place you may be moved to not progress with this particular process. This does NOT mean that you have failed or the process is useless, it is just that this particular way is not matching your need at this time and another route will be offered, if you are prepared to notice the seemingly synchronicity of it, a clue required, offered from a unusual or unexpected source. It may not be a stop dead in your track pointer but it will be at least a two prong approach to you, so if you need to continue, be aware keep an open mind.
Once having gained some ability to control your own mind activity to the extent that you can either pick a thought and pursue it, exam a thought and put it aside or think of nothing but being, then you can start to aid you physiology for a longer life. Being fully awake and aware, this should be the time when leading and being in a good state of life your need to live long can be influenced. Regrettable the later in life one starts on this path the more improbable the outcome will become. You will however have change.
Although meditation is a peaceful active state that initially needs to be worked at, with practice and awareness it does become a wholly proactive state that you can use at any time within a moment. The book of magic, the intangibility, its insubstantial nature of the energy, and its uncompromising subtlety is the real power, it requests to be nurtured and eventually you will not have to seek to live forever.
