Infinity

Infinity

∞, O, 1+, 0+, -1,

Can be thought off in a number of ways, philosophically, mathematically, practically, or just esoterically. It does not really matter as the ultimate solution to the questions of what it is, is it, or why; are all likely to be, all of ones own making.

Much has been discussed about infinity, the infinity of numbers, time, space, matter; encompassing the infinity of the smallest to the infinitely large and none can offer a satisfactory conclusion to the quest for the ultimate beginning or end of whatever ‘it’ is. For by its nature and the implicit attributes attached to it, it, if it exists, may have no beginning or end.

In material terms it is assumed that there is a limit to how small or large ‘it’ can be. This may be because of human’s presumption and experience that everything of known association that lies within the liner aspect of human existence, has a beginning and end. In attempting to offer a solution to the smallest of things, one of the early quests was to probe the possible infinity of matter. Seeking the ultimate reduction of matter that comprises the atom leads now to the position that beyond the hypothetical ‘Higgs Boson’ what is there to ‘measure’ that can be known as a material item? Does the essence of matter end at the ‘Higgs Boson’ interface and it is therefore not infinite? Or conversely looking at the macro scale how many or how large can universes be beyond any term ever available to meaningfully describe it in age or size?

Pursuing the infinite may be an illusion that stems from humans limited consciousness of existence and their need to locate a beginning or end point and to position themselves somewhere in the value. The pursuit of an infinity point, large or small is interestingly divergent, it may not matter if there is not a solution but what is important is that the concept exists and it exists in a number of ways. It is a notion in mathematics, physically material things, or as a special insubstantial concept that causes the human mind to constantly consider its existence or how the existence of it, if it does exist, affects any item being investigated that may have a potential infinity element.

We can chase the progression of infinity by adding too or subtracting from any particle of this reality. Pursuing a singular particle or value that has any additional value given too it of more of less than the original particle, will never reach the infinite of micro or macro value. In attempting reach a solution to infinity, causes a consideration on the amazing factor that humans can be aware of the concept at all, why should this be the case?

In some way it might be considered a handicap to consider that infinity has a useful relevance to human existence to the extent that so much effort can go into fathoming a conclusion, rather like calculating to the last digit the value of ∏ pie which is assumed to be endless in numerical terms. Or asking how big the universe is which can be related to how old it can be, or where is the smallest particle / energy packet?

Infinity may turn out to be a created ghost concept in the machine inserted to allow an open boundary that creates an illusion that being able to consider the possibility of it simply provides that essence to have the reality that is experienced by creatures of limited awareness of what essentially reality is, the actuality of now as is offered by the materially experienced world.

Can anyone really summarise the usefulness of an infinity equation other than as a mathematical or philosophical expression that generates an open end solution to a generated problem? Any seeker of it must ultimately become frustrated if the desire is to know the final answer as there cannot presumably be one.

Perhaps beyond the macro and micro there is nothing but the essence of will. It is the aggregate will of all creatures or life in what ever form throughout time and space that drives the creation of infinity, it is like the tenuous nature of thought that produces the smoke of essence to materialise form.

Would it be any kinder and less frustration as is the case now to believe that all things and constructed modelled infinites started with the assumed big bang? That at least gives a physical starting point against which a time of beginning could be placed but at the other end there is an unknown. When will it end? It might be assumed that once the life cycle of matter is known perhaps to a point just beyond the higgs boson that may have its beginning or end in nothing, a substance without form or mass, some comfort could be extracted to postulate ‘it’ and limit the infinity of time, space, matter and us. Being able to map out a spatial time table will then ease the chase for the value of infinity and designate human’s short linier mortality and its timed demise.

So with the additional concept of entropy if nothing last forever and with the presumed final end of humans who may not be infinite, the question of what infinity is etc will no longer be of any relevance. But consider the difficulty of holding all the concepts of quantum mechanics involved in the size, beginning or end of the universe, as it is understood now; disregarding entropy that only applies where energy is assumed as being transformed to stasis, if the actuality of infinity could be proved…………!
