I know you are all very busy just now trying to recreate some order and stability for the situation that has come about but it must be abundantly obvious now that things are not as they should be, not as you like and are most definitely not going to any plan that you might have capriciously assumed you could control. Events are a bastard and in this case you have become, with numbers, fathers of those events that you now would wish to disavow, to rephrase; to revise the ephemeral plan of freedom you constructed with all its vague directions and artifice construed lies yet the destination is not, you now find, sometimes as attractive as the journey and in your case you have set out without really knowing were the destination was and did fail all efforts to understand the preparation required. You and your cohorts talked a fine tale of hyperbole, strident certainly, arrogance, all manner of vagaries of designable deception to gain your aggrandisement mastery particularly for your own inflated ego which is now fully recognised being purely for you own masturbatory pleasure and given birth to volatile proceedings. Although warned, you never could have acknowledged the difficulties flowing from The Event to now have to have ownership of it with all its ramifications soon besetting the unsuspecting naive leavers and stalwart remains. Your deliberate marmion acts placed into the Union arena was not a game played out as neither a jolly jape of public school boys nor a continued extension of the Bullington bombast; it was the sycophantic enchantment of your bonded means that let loose venality between friends. Such deceits with traitor’s intent hold the monstrosities to observe.

It is hard to envisage just now in the turmoil that has gripped the political establishment but assuming the events are wishfully honourably benign, one might assume that with the advent of a much more adept firm leader, that a negotiated way out of the unfolding outrageous shackles taken on without serious considerations, will be sort, but does such a strong resolute leader exist to manoeuvre a settlement from the errors of the weak injurious judgement calls made. It is hoped for retrieval but a few heads will have to be lost to the fire of truth to secure a platform of conviction and confidence over the hydra of marmion exponents. Without retrieval there are still options, none of them good enough to replace what has been lost and all of them will carry the punishment of the perception of a defaulter by external participants, whom are perhaps potentially mortally wounded themselves by the staged public display of duplicity in the pretentious play off's aimed at domestic consumption and the members of the external Union. These members may not to be magnanimous for the affront inflicted upon them by the author of their own increasing discomfort and have a greater need to maintain their own stability.       

Although the deceptions were astounding, no less astonishing was the clear fracture of intentions displayed in the numerical spread and placement of the expressed result; so much so that one cannot take any comfort in the actual result as a show of unanimity by a healthy majority rather the whole event shows the hollowness of any pretence of unity across the nations union and the shallow depth of the spread of assumed growing wealth. It is an appalling picture of political policy failures and bodes of the troubles to follow. But for now all is in flux and new diversion are for consideration by the saps, anything is possible, nothing is certain, choices to be made may lead to opportunity or earned disaster and in any event as you know, an air of optimism and confidence must be a pretence to hang onto, to avoid buyers kicking the tyres and opening the bonnet.

One can, maybe, with some unjustified assumption in a time of such flux, stretch to imaging a time phased dynamic that plots out even more events.  So, it will hardly take 5 years and the implications of the 23 June 2016 Event, will have come into sharp focus. In that time the people that foisted the belief that in leaving the maligned EU, substantial resources will be released available to be invested in the NHS, that migration will be limited, trade with anyone the country wish to do business with will be more buoyant, financial / service sectors will continue to thrive, exports and investment will expand and everyone will be much better off. This rosy green clear upland view has come to a shattering gloomy reality and no matter how people would wish to recast or re-frame their action up to that eventful day undertaken in deceitful multiplicity of complicit ignorance, does nothing to absolve them of the mess they will have bequeathed to the country.

In the face of a continuing global slow down and increased geopolitical troubles the ability to formulate new trading links that benefited the UK has been a disaster. The economy has tanked out. No new money entered the social systems as leavers assured. Early in 2017 the interest rate were sent in to negative zone to drive up consumer spends and borrowing, it did not work. The pound was devalued massively again with QE pumped in to hide the unsupported debt banks held in the overpriced asset / property market. Shares were volatile yet reached the highest price for 15 years and a crash occurred. Yields on gilts nose dived. Greater imported inflation took place particularly with energy cost and the bank was happy to see overall inflation creep up to beach 3% but confidence in the ability of the UK to rebalance its economy was viewed sceptically. Deflation took its place and the market sold out of the pound with imports running considerable higher than exports it gave rise to a massive imbalance adding to the crippling nation debt and deficit. Eventually the interest rate was jacked up to lift the pounds value but stifled exports again. Despite higher emergency taxes and limited trading tariffs no dramatic increase in trade to the wider world has happened, EU continued to be the UKs biggest market but gaining that required the manipulation of a European free movement deal to maintain access to the ‘single’ market. Immigration was slowed from outside the EU but not to EU residents.

The cost of exit and going alone in a interdependent complex global market with the decline in ability of  the UK to both hold the GB union together and remain fiscally significant without leaning on the IMF threw up the unpalatable idea of a form of reintegration with the EU however the implicit caveat was to participate in the euro. The Event was viewed as an example of a democratically manipulated political disaster as the implications of The Event had many profound effects on the overall ability to carry through with everything contained in any existing or future manifestos, which even two elections could not address.

So “O what a tangled web”?........................
