"Consequential Suffering"

Consequential Suffering:

In all situations there is a high probability that there will be both negative and positive factors that have derived from the actions of an individual that has embarked on a course of action that may be seen by others as being not of a sound choice. In this situation there comes into play the effect of “consequential suffering” offering a symptom of acquired consequential suffering, loss and consequential gain for another; there is opportunity to make money.
How might this manifest?
In insurance terms there is such a thing as insuring against consequential loss, loss that has transpired from an incident such as a fire or vehicle accident that provides a measure of reinstatement to make good or compensate for a loss. This might particularly apply in the case of a business being stopped for reasons beyond its control and the consequences of that stoppage will be a loss of profits; or fixed expenditure that cannot be avoided, this is the consequential loss that can be insured against. This may be facility open to businesses should they chose to make use of it, of course it will cost subject to an assessment of risk and aims to do no more than reinstate to a point no worse or better than before the effect of the incident that gave rise to the consequential loss. From this it is clear that for those providing the insurance, although they have to cover the risk and subsequent pay-out, the risk is spread out across all participating in the unified insurance scheme and those involved in offering insurance make money out of the consequential suffering.
There is though other fields that are also profitable to be engaged in that take advantage of individual ineptness of self management / control
Take an example of someone that habitually eats excessively or smokes; much against the advice of better judgment provided by medical expert. The negative consequence may well be that the individual becomes obese to the extent that they are in danger of being unhealthy, inactive, require some form of care and may eventually die from being too fat. A similar script could be outlined for the heavy smoker, again against the evidence and advice of expert judgment, giving rise to bad health, poor lung capacity, lung disease, medicinal care or death. All of this is the negative result derived from the decisions made to participate in unwise and dangerous self inflicted unnecessary choices. Why some would choose to undertake an obvious course of actions that results in a poor quality of life and perhaps a much earlier death, could be as a result of limited information on the dangers, under education or on poor conducive social pressures. Never the less the outcome is the same, consequential suffering, giving opportunity to others to take advantage of that suffering. Although this seems mercenary, it is a opportunity of choice both for the provider of the opportunity that may have created the situation from which the consequential suffering stems and for the participants that seek to offer ‘assistance’ to ameliorate their situation, in all still there is perhaps an element of choice to not be in such a situation at all. However, in the first instance such suffering may well be a burden initially on the individual themselves and then moving to near dependants who may or may not be in a position to offer support. Without any supported or assistance the consequences of the individual suffering become more dire generating a miserable outcome for them with only four ways of mitigating the situation.
Utilising their own finances to buy assistance, attempt to have whatever state support can be got, reliant on charity, or obtaining premature death (euthanasia)
Fortunately to balance the above gloomy prognoses there is the ongoing benefit side: someone, somewhere, can make money out of self inflicted harm or indeed accident misfortune. And in this context there is, so far as one can see many opportunities to be paid to pick up the plus side of consequential suffering. For instance being a doctor, dentist, nurse, solicitor, insurance broker, computer fixer, health care worker and of other similar categories, all offer scope to make money; some are better paid than others and the game will be to find or develop a ‘niche’ that can be charged for to extract remuneration from and for consequential suffering.
Unfortunately as some consequential suffering is self induced and is often with little attempt to avoid it or actively giving recognition of the damage being done and thereby seeking a better condition; so long as humans develop habitual conditioning that may trap them into a detrimental state, there will always be a golden opportunity. Sadly the same situation applies to those that are not on a path of self destruction and are simple hurt with unwarranted and unforeseen suffering. Some things are just a part of life. There is no right or wrong, nor good or bad in gaining rewards from others consequential sufferings, even though there may be individual moral conflict in receiving such rewards; the consequential suffering cannot be judge as deserved karma for although for some humans the consequences are unsought, they also suffer and are of the same monetary value to someone. In which case it is as well that the mark of a good society and a civilised one is to insure that such suffering is manage by a universal safety-net that gives support to avoid destitution from the consequential suffering, to be humane, to ease within reason, the additional hardship that can befall a possible blameless life style that has become undermined by the impact of consequential suffering.

LHC

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC)

The Large Hadron Collider; scoots beams of protons in opposite directions, around a tunnel at close to the speed of light, when it works. The ultimate aim is to drive particles head on at 14TeV (Teraelecton volts) to simulate the condition in the moments after the Big Bang.

Scientists hope they will see new subatomic particles in the resulting collision and get a new perspective into how the universe came into being, billions of years ago. The search is on to find a number of particles that are assumed to exist and which will, when identified, offer a step solution to the problems of physics and quantum mechanics. What is hoped for is evidence of the ‘Higgs Boson’ the particle that is theoretically the building block of matter. Or alternatively evidence in support for the other supposed sub atomic particle, the super-symmetrical particle (SUSY) that might itself lead to other composite sub atom particle – like the B-meson, vaguely conceivably as being responsible for the substance, if it has one, of dark matter. Also in this investigating it would be nice to offer and answer to the other unknown, what gives matter its mass?

I know it is a preposterous idea, but, what would be the response if after all the cost and effort into attempting to find the ultimate particle, the purported Higgs Boson, that the experiments were run and nothing was found. No ultimate particle. No residual energy, zip, nought, zero. Might it be seen as one of the most expensive wasted experiment of the age but one that had to be done? Or might it raise many more questions about what humans think is known about the fundamental laws of physics? Laws which are purely substance of theoretic construction and convenience, laws that then fall apart for the lack of that one, intrinsic, definable creating force that binds the constituent parts of matter together.

Now, the assumption is that scientist will detect evidence of what may have happened micro second after the Big Bang; the beginning of the universe and will, it is hoped, find evidence of a particle, however small or a cipher for it, (the ultimate particle / energy packet) to help coalesce the theories of physics and give understandable order to observation and complete the mathematically models for the mechanics of the universe... Without it, it does creates a conundrum i.e. if there is no ultimate building block of matter or energy and the BB came from out of nothing, as scientist currently are persuaded to believe, then all of this reality is nothing. It is an existence that is fundamentally built on illusion; yet one that is experienced by the limitation of humans awareness (as humans themselves are built out of this same nothingness) and there may never be an answer to what is the matter with matter? How is it; it is not what it is thought to be?

Alternatively, the fact that the universe seems to exist as is experienced in this material reality proves that matter can be somehow created out of nothing, hence the BB. Not a very satisfactory solution but one that still opens the inevitable imponderable, how in heaven did it all start, if it did?

For the moment all expectation are on hold as the LHC is slowly racked up to speed with another test run sometime in March and then the shut down for maintenance, having not as yet achieved the full 14TeV; which is to follow next year, so the danger of creating a black hole to consume all (of local space?) in the end is still open to worry for some. But, then maybe it is just might be the beginning, again?
